A Simple Mechanism for Throttling High-Bandwidth Flows

[摘要] This letter presents BREATHe, a simple packet droppingscheme for identifying and throttling unresponsive or misbehavinghigh-bandwidth flows during times of congestion. BREATHeis different from the existing active queue management techniquesin that it uses heavy-hitter set analysis to identify highbandwidthflows rather than sampling or rate estimation. Specifically,BREATHe uses heavy-hitter set analysis to detect highbandwidthflows that exceed some target raterlimitand preferentiallydrop packets from these flows. We show that the proposedmechanism is effective at throttling high-bandwidth flows usinga small amount of state and low-complexity operation.
