Mouse models as tools to understand and study BCR-ABL1 diseases

[摘要] Mouse models of human malignancy have greatly enhanced our understanding of disease pathophysiology and have led to novel therapeutic approaches, some with extraordinary success, one such example being inhibition of the BCR-ABL1 oncogene in chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). Here, we review aspects of the biology of CML that have been uncovered at least in part through the generation and analysis of retroviral and transgenic mouse models of BCR-ABL1 disease. It can be expected that these models will also serve as important tools in the future, especially in the rational design of strategies to eradicate leukemic stem cells and potentially cure CML as well as other cancers.
