Special Needs to Prescribe Exercise Intensity for Scientific Studies
[摘要] There is clear evidence regarding the health benefits of physical activity. These benefitsfollow a dose-response relationship with a particular respect to exercise intensity. Guidelinesfor exercise testing and prescription have been established to provide optimal standards forexercise training. A wide range of intensities is used to prescribe exercise, but this approach islimited. Usually percentages of maximal oxygen uptake (VO2) or heart rate (HR) are appliedto set exercise training intensity but this approach yields substantially variable metabolic andcardiocirculatory responses. Heterogeneous acute responses and training effects are explainedby the nonuniform heart rate performance curve during incremental exercise whichsignificantly alters the calculations of %HRmaxand %HRR target HR data. Similar limitationshold true for using %VO2maxand %VO2R. The solution of these shortcomings is to strictlyapply objective submaximal markers such as thresholds or turn points and to tailor exercisetraining within defined regions.
