Postgenomics: Proteomics and Bioinformatics in Cancer Research
[摘要] Now that the human genome is completed, the characterization ofthe proteins encoded by the sequence remains a challenging task.The study of the complete protein complement of the genome, the“proteome,” referred to as proteomics, will be essential if newtherapeutic drugs and new disease biomarkers for early diagnosisare to be developed. Research efforts are already underway todevelop the technology necessary to compare the specific proteinprofiles of diseased versus nondiseased states. Thesetechnologies provide a wealth of information and rapidly generatelarge quantities of data. Processing the large amounts of datawill lead to useful predictive mathematical descriptions ofbiological systems which will permit rapid identification ofnovel therapeutic targets and identification of metabolicdisorders. Here, we present an overview of the current status andfuture research approaches in defining the cancer cell's proteomein combination with different bioinformatics and computationalbiology tools toward a better understanding of health and disease.
