Current and Future Gene Therapy for Malignant Gliomas
[摘要] Malignant gliomas are the most common neoplasm in the centralnervous system. When treated with conventional treatmentsincluding surgery, irradiation, and chemotherapy, the averagelife expectancy of the most malignant type, glioblastomamultiforme is usually less than 1 year. Therefore, gene therapyis expected to be an effective and possibly curative treatment. Many gene therapeutic approaches have demonstrated efficacy inexperimental animal models. However, the current clinical trialsare disappointing. This review focuses on current therapeuticgenes/vectors/delivery systems/targeting strategies in order tointroduce updated trends and hopefully indicate prospective genetherapy for malignant gliomas.
