In vivoMononuclear Phagocyte Migration: Paradoxical Effect of Adrenalectomy
[摘要] The effect of adrenalectomy on neutrophil and monocyte migrationinto rat peritoneal and pleural cavities was investigated.Carrageenin- or thioglycollate-induced neutrophil emigration intoboth cavities was enhanced by adrenalectomy. In contrast, monocytemigration into peritoneal cavities induced by these two stimuli wassignificantl decreased. In pleural cavities, adrenalectomy enhancedthe monocyte migration induced by carrageenin but had no effect onthat induced by thioglycollate. Administration of physiologicaldoses of glucocorticoids reversed the effect of adrenalectomy onmonocyte migration by both stimuli into both cavities. The resultssupport the hypothesis that endogenous glucocorticotds negativelycontrol neutrophil migration independently of the site or type ofstimulus. Their role in monocyte migration is, however, dependent onthe site of injury and on the type of inflammatory stimulus. Thereis no obvious explanation for the divergent influence of endogenousglucocorticoids on the monocyte emigration into peritoneal andpleural cavities observed with different stimuli.
