A TM-Pass/TE-Stop Polarizer Based on a Surface Plasmon Resonance
[摘要] A TM-pass/TE-stop polarizer consisting of ametal film sandwiched between dielectric gratings is investigatedusing the finite-difference time-domain method. Atnormal incidence with respect to the grating plane, a transmissivityof more than 94% and a reflectivity of more than98% are obtained atλ=1.55 μm for the TM and TE waves,respectively. The extinction ratio is more than 17 dB overa wavelength range of 1.50 μm to 1.75 μm. A high extinctionratio is maintained at oblique incidence, although thewavelength range shifts towards longer wavelengths. TheTM-pass/TE-stop operation is also achieved with a modifiedstructure, in which a dielectric grating is sandwichedbetween metal films.
