Perceptual Deficits in Clumsy Children: Inter- and Intra-Modal Matching Approach—A Window into Clumsy Behavior
[摘要] This article will focus on the underlyingperceptual deficits that might lead toinadequacies in motor performance in children. Two lines of enquiry have dominated theliterature: visual-perceptual deficit and/or visualmotordeficits and proprioceptive deficits. Thetheoretical and methodological shortcomings inthese approaches are discussed. Then attentionis primarily directed toward the concept ofinter- and intra-modal matching (sensory integration),particularly with respect to vision andproprioception, an ability deemed, to underliemany real-life motor skills. Such an approachallows parallels to be drawn between behavioralmanifestations of motor impairment andpotential underlying neurological informationprocessingdisorders, particularly as theserelate to hemispheric competence.
