GABA Withdrawal Modifies Network Activity in Cultured Hippocampal Neurons
[摘要] Dissociated hippocampal neurons, grownin culture for 2 to 3 weeks, tended to firebursts of synaptic currents at fairly regularintervals, representing network activity. Abrief exposure of cultured neurons to GABAcaused a total suppression of the spontaneousnetwork activity. Following a washout ofGABA, the activity was no longer clustered inbursts and instead, the cells fired at a highrate tonic manner. The effect of removingGABA could be seen as long as 1 to 2 daysafter GABA withdrawal and is expressed asan increase in the number of active cells in anetwork, as well as in their firing rates. Suchstriking effects of GABA removal mayunderlie part of the GABA withdrawalsyndrome seen elsewhere.
