Spontaneous Object Recognition in the Göttingen Minipig

[摘要] Göttingen minipigs were tested in an objectrecognition procedure based on spontaneousexploration. Eight pigs were exposed to twosimilar objects in a sample trial and after a one-hourdelay exposed to two objects, one familiarand one novel, in a test trial. The pigs exploredthe novel object significantly more than thefamiliar object in the test trial (p<0.05), therebyshowing recognition of the familiar object.Furthermore, habituation of exploration of thefamiliar object between the sample trial and thetest trial was found (p<0.05). The procedure can be useful for testing of spontaneous trial-uniquememory in pigs.
