The road surveying system of the federal highway research institute – a performance evaluation of road segmentation algorithms

[摘要] The construction of highways and federal roadways is subject to manyrestrictions and designing rules. The focus is on safety, comfort and smoothdriving. Unfortunately, the planning information for roadways and their realconstitution, course and their number of lanes and lane widths is oftenunsure or not available. Due to digital map databases of roads raised muchinterest during the last years and became one major cornerstone of innovativeAdvanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADASs), the demand for accurate anddetailed road information increases considerably. Within this project ameasurement system for collecting high accurate road data was developed. Thispaper gives an overview about the sensor configuration within the measurementvehicle, introduces the implemented algorithms and shows some applicationsimplemented in the post processing platform. The aim is to recover the originparametric description of the roadway and the performance of the measurementsystem is being evaluated against several original road constructioninformation.
