Retrieving wind statistics from averagespectrum of continuous-wave lidar
[摘要] The aim of this study is to experimentally demonstrate that thetime-average Doppler spectrum of a continuous-wave (cw) lidar isproportional to the probability density function of the line-of-sightvelocities. This would open the possibility of using cw lidars forthe determination of the second-order atmospheric turbulencestatistics. An atmospheric field campaign and a wind tunnelexperiment are carried out to show that the use of an average Dopplerspectrum instead of a time series of velocities determined fromindividual Doppler spectra significantly reduces the differences withthe standard deviation measured using ordinary anemometers, such asultra-sonic anemometers or hotwires. The proposed method essentiallyremoves the spatial averaging effect intrinsic to the cw lidarsystems.
