Klima und Lufthygiene der Region Biel : Gedanken und erste Resultate aus einer interdisziplinären Studie
[摘要] An urban climate and air pollution study in the smalltown of Biel (Switzerland; population: 85000 including suburbs) aims not only at the analysis of a verydense distribution of emissions, dispersion climateand depositions, but also attempts to correlate thesefactors with selected effects on man. These effectsinclude the impacts on children's respiratory organsand the growth of plants (liehen). The findings of thisstudy will have direct application in land use planningand related political decisions for new highwaySystems, selection of new housing developments andindustrial districts, as well as future fuel supplyoptions.
Initial results show that future activities shouldconcentrate on case studies during anticyclonicwintertime weather types with north-northeasterlysynoptic flow. These weather types are associated withcold air advection, weak winds, strong temperatureinversions and consequently, high air pollution ratesin the Biel area. A first draft of a very dense analysis ofthe air pollution potential for a similar weather typehas been worked out (figure 5). This analysis will beused for the design of additional mobile measurements and modeling studies.
