Neue Ergebnisse zur Gletscher- und Klimageschichte des Spätmittelalters und der Neuzeit
[摘要] This article contributes to the glacier and climaticfluctuations during the late Middle Ages and theModern Times. With the aid of radiocarbon dating offossil woods and a fossil soil (fAh) located in thegletschervorfeld of two glaciers (Glacier de Zinal andRiedgletscher, Valais), the foUowing glacier advancescould be shown: between 890 yBP and 1095 yBP, at515 yBP, in the seventeenth and in the nineteenthCentury.
The tree rings from a larch (Larix decidua Mill.) nearthe glacier and the tree line (Riedgletscher, 2180 maltitude) was analysed by the X-ray densitometry. Themaximum density of the annual rings reflects thesummer temperatures since the middle of the twelfthCentury. The fluctuations of the maximum densityshows a close interrelation with the fluctuations of theGrosser Aletschgletscher (Valais). The local climaticinfluence of the Riedgletscher during maximal extensionis visible in reduced tree-growth. During theretreat phase, when the glacier melted back, theregional climate dominates the tree-growth again.
