Secondary maxima in ozone profiles

[摘要] Ozone profiles from balloon soundings as well as SAGEII ozoneprofiles were used to detect anomalous large ozone concentrations ofozone in the lower stratosphere. These secondary ozone maxima arefound to be the result of differential advection of ozone-poor andozone-rich air associated with Rossby wave breaking events. Thefrequency and intensity of secondary ozone maxima and theirgeographical distribution is presented. The occurrence and amplitudeof ozone secondary maxima is connected to ozone variability and trendat Uccle and account for a large part of the total ozone and lowerstratospheric ozone variability.
