Solar occultation with SCIAMACHY: algorithm description and first validation
[摘要] This presentation concentrates on solar occultation measurements with thespaceborne spectrometer SCIAMACHY in the UV-Vis wavelength range. Solaroccultation measurements provide unique information about the verticaldistribution of atmospheric constituents. For retrieval of vertical trace gasconcentration profiles, an algorithm has been developed based on the optimalestimation method. The forward model is capable of simulating the extinctionsignals of different species as they occur in atmospheric transmissionspectra obtained from occultation measurements. Furthermore, correctionalgorithms have been implemented to address shortcomings of the tangentheight pre-processing and inhomogeneities of measured solar spectra. Firstresults of O3 and NO2 vertical profile retrievals have been validatedwith data from ozone sondes and satellite based occultation instruments. Thevalidation shows very promising results for SCIAMACHY O3 and NO2 valuesbetween 15 to 35km with errors of the order of 10% and 15%,respectively.
