Goat production in south-west region of Bangladesh
[摘要] ThepurposeofthestudywastoidentifyandquantifythepotentialofgoatproductionintheSouth-WestpartofBangladesh.Thestudyrevealedthatonanaveragetherewere10.53BlackBengalgoatsperfarm.Theaveragefertilelifeofadoewas7-8years.Fieldgrazingwasthemainfeedingsystemandwasstronglyinfluencedbyseason.Onepersonwasabletoherd9-11goatsinthedryseasonwhileintherainyseasonthenumberofheadswas20-25.Inadditiontothefamilymembers,servantswerealsoengagedtograzegoats.Thefarmersreportedthattheyusedthesaleproceedsfromthegoatstocultivatecrops,purchasefood,housingandclothing,socialactivities,educationalexpensesandpurchaseofland.Mostofthefarmersinthestudyareareportedthatgoatrearingwasaprofitablebusinessandthattheycouldovercomeacrisisbysellinggoats.Itisconcludedthatthereisaneedtohavemoreinformationontheroleofgoatsinruraldevelopmentsothatappropriateresearchstrategiescanbedeveloped.
