[摘要] Ruminantsobtainthemajorityofessentialnitrogenfrommicrobialdegradationofdietaryproteinwithintherumenandthesubsequentincreaseinmicrobialbiomass.Microbialproteingeneratedbytheincreaseinbiomassisthemainsourceofproteinnitrogenfortheanimal.Thesupplyofmicrobialproteinmaythereforebeadverselyaffectedbyvariousenvironmentalorbacterialfactors.Polyphenolicplantproductsintropicallegumescancomplexwithdietaryorbacterialproteinandinhibitmicrobialgrowth.Celluloseorlignocellulosepresentintropicalgrassesorotherforagesmayrestrictbacterialaccesstoplantprotein.Theaminoacidcompositionofbacterialproteinmaynotalwaysbeadequatetosupportrapidanimalgrowthandhighlevelsofanimalproduction.Wehaverecentlyisolatedaphenolicacid-resistantmicrobialpopulationfromtherumencontentsofferalgoats.Whenintroducedintotherumenofsheep,thispopulationenhancesproteinsupplyandyieldssubstantialincreasesinanimalproductivityontannin-containingfeeds.WehaveclassifiedoneorganismfromthismixtureasStreptococcuscaprinusandshowthatitcanbemaintainedinsheepatapopulationof105cfu/mlofrumenfluid.
