Manipulation of the broody period to increase egg production of indigenous hens under rural conditions in Bangladesh
[摘要] Indigenoushensstartedtolayeggsat190-200dayswithanaverageof3.5clutchesof12.5eggseach.Aftereachclutchthehensbroodontheeggsfor3weeks,theeggshatchandthechicksarerearedto9weeksofage.Thehenthencommencestolayanotherclutchwithanaverageintervalof9.3weeksandduringthe240daysofthepresentstudyperiodthebirdsproduced42eggs/hen.Whenamanagementinterventionwasmadeandthechickswereconfinedat4weeksofagethehensreducedtheintervalbetweenthebroodyperiodsfrom9.3to5.5weeksandincreasedthenumberofclutchesfrom3.5to5.0,producing60eggsduringthe240days'studyperiod,whichisanincreaseof18eggsperhen(43%).
