Effect of the replacement of steam treated sugarcane bagasse by milo upon performance of finishing cattle
[摘要] Thetrialwasconductedtodeterminetheeffectsofsubstitutingmiloforsteam-treatedsugarcanebagasse(STB)onperformanceoffinishingcattleaswellastocomparetheseresultswithresultsobtainedfromsimilardiets,inwhichSTBwasreplacedbyrawsugarcanebagasse(RSB).Thefollowingbasaldietswerefed:26%RSB+47%milo,38%RSB+34%milo,26%STB+47%milo,38%STB+34%miloand52%STB+20%milo(drymatterbasis).ThesedietsrepresentedthetreatmentscalledRB26,RB38,SB26,SB38andSB52,inthesameorder.Theywerecompletedwith:yeast(15%),molasses(6%),cottonseedmeal(3%),sodiumbicarbonate(0.8%)andminerals(1.7%).Therewasonemoretreatment,whichhalftheexperimentalperiodwasgivendietSB52andtheotherhalfdietSB38,namedSB52/38.Alldietsweregiventofeedlotcattle.Eachtreatmentwasgiventoeachofsixgroupsof10animals.TreatmentsSB38andSB26resultedinhigherdailygain(plt;0.05)thantreatmentRB38.Drymatterintakewashigher(plt;0.05%)intreatmentRB26thanintreatmentsSB52,SB38,SB26andRB38.ByreplacingSTBwithmilo,thedailygaintendedtoincrease,butsincedrymatterconsumptionwasprobablylimitedbyenergyintake,thoseincreasewerenotsignificant.Comparisondataamongdietsprovideclearevidencethatthesteamtreatmentimprovedthesugarcanebagasseutilization.
