Effect of molasses-urea cake on performance of growing and working local buffaloes and cattle fed low nutritive value diets

[摘要] Inthreeexperiments,multinutritionalcakeswerefedto:10straw-fedworkingbuffaloesinthedryseasonand10straw-andgrass-fedworkingbuffaloesintherainyseasonof1990;20straw-andgrass-fedworkingcattleinthedryandrainyseasonof1991;and9youngbuffaloesfedricestraw,grassandfreshsugarcanebagassein1991.Comparableunsupplementedgroupsofbuffaloesandcattlewereusedascontrolsforeachexperiment.Duringamonthattheendofthedryseasontheliveweightchangeofthesupplementedbuffaloeswas13.9±3.9comparedto-8.4±1.4kgforthecontrol(Plt;0.001).Atthebeginningoftherainyseasonthecomparabledatawere-1.8±4.4and-12.0±1.7kg,respectively(Plt;0.001).Supplementedbuffaloeswereabletoploughagreaterareaperday,atafasterspeed,andwithmorerapidrecoveryofnormalpulseandrespirationrateafterworking.Duringa3monthperiod,theliveweightchangeofgrowingyoungbuffaloeswas25.58±5.32withurea-molassescakesupplementationcomparedto13.97±7.40kgforthecontrol(Plt;0.01).Itwasconcludedthatthemultinutritionalcakesupportedagoodhealthandworkingcapacityofnativecattleandbuffaloesunderharshconditionsofshortagesoffeedandwater.Thecakewasapplaudedbylocalfarmers.
