Intake, digestion and feeding behaviour of the one-humped camel stall-fed straw-based diets

[摘要] Intake,digestionandfeedingbehaviouroffour200kgone-humpedcamelsfedlongorchoppedstraw-baseddietsweredeterminedintwo2x2LatinSquares.Wheatstrawswereofferedadlibitumwhileaconcentratecontaining96%wheatbran,3%mineralsupplementand1%ureawasrestrictedto0.5kgasfedperday.Choppingthestrawdidnotaffect(Pgt;.05)anyoftheinvestigatedparameters.Meanstrawintakewas2.36kgDM/d,whichrepresented84.1%ofthetotalDMintake.Thecamelsspent39%oftheirtimeruminating,29%eatingand32%resting.About97%oftheeatingactivityoccuredduringdaytimeversus44.4%forruminatingand45%forresting.ApparentdigestibilitiesofDM,OM,CPandCFwere:55,58,42and65%,respectively.Itwasconcludedfromcomparisonoftheseresultswithliteraturedataoncattleandsheepthatcameldidnotappeartodigestmoreextensivelypoorqualityroughages.
