Influencia de la Mordida Cruzada posterior Unilateral en el crecimiento mandibular
[摘要] Ahighnumberofpatientsdevelopfacialasymmetriesduringchildhood.Itisastageoffastgrowth,whereenvironmentalandhereditaryfactorsmayalterthedevelopmentoffacialstructures,suchasposteriorcrossbite.Themainobjectiveofthisstudyistoevaluatethevariationofmandibularmorphologyin34patientswithunilateralposteriorcrossbiteandcompareitwiththeresultsofsimilarinvestigationsandtheoriesofgrowthanddevelopment.Panoramicradiographieswereanalyzedintheaimtostudymandibularsymmetryandtheywereallocatedinto4groupsbasedonage:group1conformedby9childrenbetween5and7yearsold;group2by12patientsamong8and9yearsold;thethirdgroupinvolves7childrenbetween10and14yearsold,whilethelastgroupconsistsof6adults.Noneofthepatientshadreceivedpreviousorthodontictreatmentandtheyhadatleast2ormoreposteriorteethincrossbite;andthosewithasyndromethataffectedmandibulargrowthwereexcluded.Theresultsshowedasignificantpercentageofvariation;specificallythealterationofcondylarheightandarticularspace,beingincreasedonthenon-crossbiteside.Thecondylarwidthwasnotsignificanttoourinvestigationandtheangleofthearticulareminencewasasymmetricon20%ofthecasesstudied.Whencomparingthewidthandlengthofthemandibularramusandthelengthofthebody,thislastshowedthemostsignificantalteration;whichwasaugmentedonthenon-crossbiteside.Itwasconcludedthatunilateralposteriorcrossbiteproducemorphologicasymmetries;speciallyduetoanincreaseinthecondylelengthontheoppositesideofthemalocclusion.Inaddition,theasymmetrybecomesmoreevidentasthepatientages.
