[摘要] Bodypiercingisanancientdecorationpracticethatmayservebeauty,ritual,socialorreligiouspurposes.Tothepresentday,thispracticecontinuestobeofpopularinterestforvariousreasons,beingusedasasexualattractivetomalesorfemales.Thejewelsusedforliportonguepiercingusuallyhaveadumbbellshapewithacentralbarandtwosphericalends.Severaladversereactionssufferedbythepatientswiththistypeofpiercinghavebeenreportedandinclude:pain,postoperativetissueinflammationwithpotentialobstructionofairway,prolongedhemorrhage,diminishedflavorperception,chewingandswallowingdifficulty,enamelfracturesandperiodontaldamagesuchasgingivalrecessionandboneloss.Wereportthecaseofa15yearoldmalepatientwhohadalingualpiercingfor30monthsandalabialpiercingfor24months.Factorsthatpredisposedhimtoperiodontaldamageincluded:thinningofthevestibularcorticalbone,severerotationofthelowerrightcentralincisorandactiveorthodontictreatment.Clinicalexaminationrevealedgingivalmigrationandlossofalveolarboneofthelowerrightcentralincisorcausedbyrepeatedtraumafromthelabialpiercing.Treatmentperformedincludedremovalofthepiercingandthecoveringoftheexposedrootwithafreegingivalgraft,solvingboththeestheticandperiodontalproblem.
