INTERPRETATION OF ELECTRICAL-RESISTANCE SOIL MOISTURE DATA FOR A FREEZE-THAW ENVIRONMENT
[摘要] Thevalueofelectrical-resistancemeasurementsfromsoilmoistureblocksinafreeze-thawenvironmentcanbeenhancedbylaboratorycalibrationinthesubzerotemperaturerangetoprovideameasureofunfrozenwatercontents.Laboratorystudiesshowthat,inthetemperaturerangeofincipientfreezingandthawing(−3to0 C)electricalresistanceasmeasuredwithColmanfiberglasresistanceblocksisindependentoftemperature.Attemperatureslessthan−3 C,electricalresistanceisdependentuponboththenatureoftheporousmediumandtemperature,butisindependentofthetotalwatercontentofthesoil-watersystem.ResultsfromthelaboratoryinvestigationsareextendedtotheinterpretationoffieldmeasurementsofelectricalresistanceforasoilprofileatCalgary,Alberta,Canada.
