EFFECT OF SOIL WATER POTENTIAL AND BULK DENSITY ON WATER UPTAKE PATTERNS AND RESISTANCE TO FLOW OF WATER IN WHEAT PLANTS
[摘要] Wateruptakepatternsofwheatplantswerestudiedinagrowthchamberbyusingtwosoilspackedtothreedifferentbulkdensities.Theresistancestowatermovementinthesoilandintheplantwerecalculatedfromthemathematicalmodelforwateruptakepublishedintheliterature.Whenthecapillarypotentialofthesoilswasnear−⅓bar,withdrawalofwaterbyplantswasrelativelysmallandmostofthewaterwastakenfromthetop25 cmofthesoilcolumn.Assoilwaterpotentialdecreased,wateruptakeincreasedprogressivelytowardthelowerpartofthesoilcolumn.Theresistancetowatermovementintheplantincreasedfromthetoptothebottomoftherootsystemandincreasedwithincreasingbulkdensityofthesoils.Forwetsoils,unrealisticvalueswereobtainedwhichcouldbeduetothefactthattheinteractionbetweenaerationandmoistureuptakeisnottakenintoaccountinthetheoreticalequationsformoistureuptake.
