THE INFLUENCE OF NITROGEN ON THE DECOMPOSITION OF CROP RESIDUES IN THE SOIL
[摘要] Additionsofmineralnitrogenacceleratedtheinitialdecompositionrateofincorporatedwheatstraw,alfalfahayandglucosewhenaddedtotwosoilsdifferingwidelyinorganicmattercontent.However,inthemoreadvancedstagesofdecompositionthereversewastrue,andoverthetotalincubationperiodlargeramountsofcarbonweremaintainedinsoilssupplementedwithnitrogen.Incontrasttoallotherresiduesused,nitrogenadditionstocelluloseeffectedacontinuousandsubstantialincreaseinresiduedecomposition.Thiswastheonlyresidueforwhichthemineralizationofsoilorganicmatterdidnotsupplynitrogenadequateforitsdecompositionwithin120days.Theveryslowrateofdecompositionofsphagnumpeatcouldbeattributedtoitshighlignincontent,ratherthantothenitrogenlevels.Sulphacetolysisanalysis,whichmeasuresthenon-humifiedcarbon,indicatedthefeasibilityofseparatingnon-humifiedcropresiduesfromthemorecomplexsoilorganicmatter.Additionoforganicamendments...
