PERSISTENCE OF BORAX IN SANDY SOILS
[摘要] AfieldexperimentwasconductedonSt.Pacômesandyloamtostudythemovementandaccumulationofappliedboronwithinthesoilprofile,andconsequentlydeterminetheoptimumrateandfrequencyofboraxapplicationtothesandysoilsofEasternQuebecfortheproductionofalfalfahayandseed.From65to75percentoftheboraxapplied,dependingupontherateused,hadmovedbelowthe36-inchdepth30monthsafterapplication.Theremainingportionwasfound,mostlyinwater-solubleform,belowthe16-inchdepthinthecaseofplotswhichhadreceivedboraxatthe10-and15-lb.rates,andintheentireprofile,butwithgreaterconcentrationinlowerdepths,inthecaseofplotswhichhadreceived25and40 lb.peracre.Verylittlefixationoftheboronappliedoccurredbetweenthesurfaceandthe36-inchdepth.Thebiennialapplicationof15to20 lb.ofboraxforalfalfahayand25to30 lb.forseedappearedsatisfactoryonthatsoil.
