INFLUENCE OF SOIL TEXTURE, REACTION, AND TEMPERATURE ON THE UPTAKE OF NITROGEN FROM THREE NITROGEN FERTILIZERS
[摘要] RyegrasswasgrownonfoursoilsvaryingintextureandpH,inhalf-gallonglazedpotsforaperiodof8monthsinthegreenhouse.A6-weekcoolperiodat35°F.wasemployedfollowingthefirstcutting.Nitrogenwastop-dressedattherateof80 lb.nitrogen/ac.,intheformofeitherurea,ammoniumsulphateorcalciumnitrate.Thesematerialswereaddedaftergerminationoftheryegrassinonetreatment,andbeginningthecoolperiodinasecondtreatment.From50to100percentoftheaddednitrogenwasrecoveredinplantmaterialandleachates.Calciumnitrategavethehighestrecoveryofnitrogenonallsoils.Nodifferencewasfoundbetweenammoniumsulphateandureaintheuptakeandleachingofnitrogen.Ureawasconvertedtoammonia,attemperaturesaslowas35°F.Theapplicationofnitrogenbeforethecoolingperiodextendedtheperiodofuptakebythecrop.Itwasconcludedthatthebehaviourofnitrogenfertilizersinsoilisdependentonboththetextureandreactionofthesoil,thatthem...
