THE RELATION OF SOIL TEST VALUES TO FERTILIZER RESPONSE BY THE POTATO: I. NITRATE PRODUCTION AND CROP YIELD

[摘要] Theabilityofsoiltoproducenitratenitrogenwasdeterminedbyanincubationmethodandvaluesobtainedwererelatedtopotatoyieldsat21experimentallocationsbyBray'smodifiedMitscherlichequation.Themeanc1value(proportionalityconstant)foratotalof58tests,whichincludedthreevarietiesduringa2-yearperiod,was0.0182.Thestandarderrorofthemeanwas0.0014.Whiledifferencesbetweenc1valuesforyearswerenotsignificant,differencesbetweenlocationsandvarietieswere.Whenthesoilsweregrouped,thec1valuesforthosefromtheAnnapolisValleywereapproximatelytwicethoseforsoilsfromtheadjacentNorthandSouthMountains,andthevalueswithineachgroupwereremarkablyuniform.Theappropriateequationsforrelatingsoiltestvaluesandcropyieldswerelog(A-y) = logA − 0.0112b1andlog(A-y) = logA − 0.0204b1forMountainandValleysoilsrespectively.
