[摘要] Alaboratorystudywascarriedouttodeterminethebreakdownofsoilstructurebyalternatefreezingandthawing.SurfacesamplesofHaldimandclayfromplotscroppedwithcornforthe3previousyearsandfromplotsofcontinuousbluegrasssodwereused.Cyclesoffreezingandthawingcausedasignificantbreakdownofaggregatesfromthesodplotsatallmoisturelevelsemployedexcepttheoneequivalentto1.0atmospherepressure.Thedestructiveeffectsofalternatefreezingandthawingincreasedwithincreasingmoistureinthewell-aggregatedsoil(bluegrass),buttheeffectsonapoorlyaggregatedsoil(corn)werenotsignificant.
