[摘要] Baresoilwasirrigated,coveredtopreventevaporation,andsampledperiodicallytodepthsof6or7feet.In12teststhetotaltimeafterirrigatingvariedfrom15daysto64days.Bychartingmoisturecontentagainsttimeonlog-logpaper,straight-linetrendswereobtainedwithanequationofthetypeM = aT−b,inwhichM=moisturecontent,T=time,andaandbareconstants.Thefitwasquitecloseexceptduringthefirstdayortwoafterirrigating.Anexaminationofresultsreportedbyotherworkersyieldedthesametypeofequation.Fromthiswerecalculatedequationsrelatingrateofmoisturelosstotime,rateofmoisturelosstomoisturecontent,andcumulativemoisturelosstotime.Withincreasingdepthinthesoil,thetotaldrainageincreasedbutthenetrateoflossperfootofsoildecreased.Thefiner-texturedthesoil,thegreaterwasthemoisturelossperunitoftimebutthelesswasthebvalue.
