THE OCCURRENCE OF CHLORITE AND VERMICULITE IN THE CLAY FRACTION OF THREE BRITISH COLUMBIA SOILS
[摘要] TheclaymineralogyofsurfacesamplesfromthreesoilsonVancouverIslandwhichhadbeenusedinfertilityexperimentswasdeterminedbyX-raydiffraction.Chloritewasidentifiedasthepredominantmineralinallthreesoils.VermiculitewaspresentindiscreteunitsintheChemainussoilandinterstratifiedwithchloriteintheFairbridgeandMervillesoils.Kaolinitemayalsohavebeenaconstituent;thiscouldnotbedeterminedsincetheuseofcertaincriteria,proposedinthepastfortheidentificationofkaoliniteinthepresenceofchlorite,provedunsuccessful.Itwasconcludedthatnouniversalcriterion,whichholdstrueinallcases,existsfordistinguishingkaoliniteinthepresenceofchlorite.
