SOIL CONDITIONERS—THEIR EFFECT ON COARSE-TEXTURED SOILS, CROP YIELDS AND COMPOSITION
[摘要] CropresponsetosoilstructuralchangescausedbysoilconditioneramendmentswasstudiedinseveraldifferentsandysoilsofNewJersey.Theresponsevariedwiththecropandtreatment.Thosechemicalsthatwereslightlyhydrophobicweremosteffectiveandgenerallycropresponsewasgreatestonthesetreatments.CationssuchasNamaybeaddedinlargeamountsaspartofsomeconditioners,andthismayresultinreduceduptakeofothernutrientssuchasMg.andK.Exceptforthiseffect,conditionersdidnotreducenutrientuptakebyplants.WhenelementssuchasNaandNareaddedinlargeamountsaspartofsomeconditioners,theremaybeanincreaseduptakeofthesenutrients.CatalinandVAMAconditionersproducedadrysurfacemulchwhichappearedtoreduceevaporation.Moisturereserveswere,therefore,preservedthroughadroughtandthisresultedinincreasedgrowthofcropsoverthosegrownonothertreatments.Culturalpracticesdestroyedthestabilityoftheconditionedaggregates,sinceinm...
