EFFECTS OF SAWDUST USED AS A MULCH AND AS A SOIL AMENDMENT ON SOIL TEMPERATURES UNDER IRRIGATED AND UNIRRIGATED CONDITIONS
[摘要] Soiltemperaturereadingsweretakenat7.30 a.m.,noon,and5 p.m.overa3-yearperiod(2yearswithoutand1yearwithirrigation)atapoint4inchesbelowthesurfaceofsawdust-mulched,sawdust-incorporatedandcheckplots.Theeffectofblackenedsawdustmulchonsoiltemperatureswasalsostudied.Markeddifferencesbetweensoiltemperaturesinthevarioustreatmentswerefound,thegreatestbeingduringJulywhenthedifferencebetweentheaveragemaximumandminimumairtemperaturewasalsogreatest.Soiltemperatureswerelowerinthesawdust-mulchedthaninthecheckplots,exceptat7.30 a.m.underirrigationwhenreadingswerehigherthroughouttheseasoninthemulchedplot.AfterAugustunderirrigatedconditionsandafterOctoberwithoutirrigationareversaltookplace,andthesoiltemperaturesbecamehigherunderthemulchthaninthecheckduetotheslowerheatlossfromthemulchedsoil.Incorporatingsawdusthadonlyaslighteffectuponsoiltemperatures,butblackeningthemulch...
