Three new species of Planchonella Pierre (Sapotaceae) with a dichotomous and an online key to the genus in New Caledonia

[摘要] InspiteofarecentpublicationofeightnewspeciesofPlanchonella(Sapotaceae)fromNewCaledonia,threeadditionalnoveltiesareheredescribedandillustrated(P.cauliflora,P.ericiflora,andP.minutiflora).Planchonellacauliflorawasdiscoveredin2006nearLaFoaandisthefirstandsolememberinthearchipelagowithacauliflorousinflorescence,agenusotherwisehavingaxillaryflowers(rarelyramiflorous).Theothertwowerediscoveredamongherbariummaterialbutnotearlieridentifiedasnew.Arecentsuggestedhypothesis(Swensonetal.2007b)thatfruitmorphologyindicatesphylogeneticrelationshipswithinPlanchonellaissupported.AridgedfruitwithacuminateapicesandashortstyleplaceP.caulifloraintheirCladeD1,acladeconfinedtoNewCaledonia.FruitsofP.minutifloraareunknown,butbasedonITSsequencedataitbelongstothesamecladeasP.caulifloraanditispredictedthatthefruitissimilar.MolecularsequencesofP.ericifloraarestillmissing,butbasedonapear-shapedfruit,roundapicesandafairlylongstyle,webelieveitiscloselyrelatedtoadifferentcladeofPlanchonellathatisalsorestrictedtoNewCaledonia.AllthreespecieshaveverynarrowdistributionsandmatchthecriteriaoftheIUCNredlistasCriticallyEndangered.Planchonellacontainshenceforth36speciesinNewCaledoniatowhichwehereprovideadiagnosticandaninteractiveonlinekeyunderXper2,availableatftp://ftp.ird.nc/pub/outgoing/biologie/herbier-nou/.
