On the distinction of Atractocarpus heterophyllus (Montrouz.) Guillaumin & Beauvis. and A. bracteatus Schltr. & K.Krause (Rubiaceae): in search of the correct name for the type species of Atractocarpus Schltr. & K.Krause

[摘要] AtractocarpusSchltr.amp;K.KrauseisanAustralianandPacificgenusofGardenieae(Rubiaceae)whichincludesc.40species.Thegenuswasinitiallydescribedforaspeciesbearingfusiformfruits,andoccurringinthesouthernpartofNewCaledonia,viz.A.bracteatusSchltr.amp;K.Krause.Anotherspecies,A.heterophyllus(Montrouz.)Guillauminamp;Beauvis.withoblongleavesandoblongovoidfruitswasdescribedforNewCaledonia,butinitiallyunderGardeniaEllisandthisfortheNorthofthearchipelago.Duringlaterrevisionsandsupplementarydescriptionsofspeciesinthegenus,bothspeciescarryingheteromorphicleaveswerereconsidered.ThenameA.bracteatuswasplacedinsynonymyofA.heterophyllus;whilekeepingadelimitationofthespeciesrestrictedtothesoutheasternpopulations.Thissituationendedinthere-descriptionofthenorthernspecies,namedA.balansaeanusGuillaumin.Theresultsofthepresentwork,basedontheexaminationofherbariumspecimensandliterature,disentanglesthecollusionforA.heterophyllusvsA.bracteatus.Hence,thecorrectnametypifyingAtractocarpusisA.bracteatus.InregardtothedestructionoftheholotypeforA.bracteatusinBerlin(B)andoftwoofthesyntypesforA.heterophyllusinLyon(LYJB),typificationsforthesespeciesnamesareproposed.Toclarifytheirtaxonomy,completedescriptions,listsofspecimensandillustrationsareprovidedforbothspecies.
