Control of cell differentiation in lizard epidermis in vitro☆
[摘要] Theperiodicskin-sheddingoflizardsinvolvesthelossandreplacementofepidermalgenerations.Agenerationconsistsofseveralstrata,eachstratumcomprisingaspecificcelltype.Thecelltypesarederivedfromamorphologicallyhomogeneousgerminal-celllayer.Piecesofintactskin(epidermisplusdermis)continuetoproduceepidermalgenerationsforperiodsupto49daysinvitro.Thestructureofthesegenerationsisnotsignificantlydifferentfromthatformedinvivo.TreatmentwithEDTAeffectsdermoepidermalseparation.Whengrowninvitro,theintactisolatedepidermisshowsnormaldifferentiationandgenerationformation.Alterationsinintercellularrelationships,suchasoccurinregionsofcellmigrationorafterremovaloftheouterepidermallayers,areassociatedwithderangementofthenormalchangingpatternofcelldifferentiation.Theseobservationsindicatethatthecapacityforthecomplexchangingpatternofcelldifferentiationisintrinsictotheepidermis.Itissuggestedthatthepatternofdifferentiationisregulatedbyafeedbackmechanismeffectedviacommunicationbetweentheepidermalcellsofthedifferentstrata.
