[摘要] Themid-ventralapteriumofthechickdoesnotformfeathersundernormalconditions.Themorphogeneticpropertiesofthetegumentofregionhavebeentestedbycombinationsofitsepidermisordermiswithdermisorepidermisfromthedorsalfeather-formingskin.Theexplantsofrecombinedskinhavebeencultivatedfor7daysonthechorioallantoicmembrane.Thecombinationsof7-daydorsalfeather-formingdermiswith10-daymid-ventralepidermisproducednormalfeathergerms.Withepidermisfrom11-to14-dayskin,theoutgrowthofthefeathergermswasreducedinproportiontotheincreasingageoftheepidermis.Howeverwhen15-or16-daymid-ventralepidermiswasused,overallkeratinizationpreventedtheformationoffeathergerms.Thecombinationsof10-to15-daymid-ventraldermiswith7-and8-daydorsalepidermisdidnotformanyfeathergerms.Weconcludedthattheincapacityofthemid-ventraltegumenttoformfeathersresidesinthedermis,whichhasnoinductivecapacitynorcompetenceregardingthedifferentiationoftheplumage.Thisresulthasbeendiscussedinviewofearlierexperimentsinwhichsupernumerarypterylaeorexperimentalapteriahadbeenproduced.Theearlyconstitutionofadensedermisappearstobeanecessaryconditionfortheformationofapteryla.
