Quantitative changes in DNA, RNA, and protein during prenatal and postnatal growth in the rat☆
[摘要] NormalgrowthintherathasbeenstudiedbydeterminingtotalanimalandindividualorganDNA,RNA,protein,andweightatvarioustimesfrom10daysafterconceptiontomaturity.Fromthesedatathenumberofnucleiandtheweight,protein,andRNApernucleushavebeendetermined.Beginningat10daysafterconceptionandcontinuingforavariableperiodinallorgans,growthproceedsentirelybycelldivision.Afterthis,bothcelldivision(asindicatedbyincreasingamountsofDNA)andcellenlargement(asindicatedbyanincreaseinweightorproteinpernucleus)occursimultaneouslyinmostorgans.Finallyonlycellenlargement(increaseintotalweightorproteinwithnofurtherincreaseinDNA)occurs.Growthstopswhentotalorganweightorproteinreachesaconstantamount.Organsofthelymphoidsystemdonotshowthesecondandthirdphaseofgrowth.Growthproceedsbycelldivisionalone.RNAinmostorgansremainsproportionaltoDNAduringtheperiodstudied,resultinginaconstantfigureforRNApernucleus.Thesedataestablishcertainquantitativeeventsthatoccurduringnormalgrowthandshouldprovideabaselineforfurtherstudiesinvolvinggrowthretardation.
