Cytochrome oxidase deficiency during development of amphibian nucleocytoplasmic hybrids☆
[摘要] TheactivityofmitochondrialcytochromeoxidasewasinvestigatedduringtheembryonicdevelopmentofnucleocytoplasmichybridscontaininganucleargenomederivedfromR.pipiensandamitochondrialgenomederivedfromR.palustris.Usingaquantitativecytochemicalapproach,wefoundthattheactivityofcytochromeoxidasefailedtoincreaseduringthedevelopmentoftheseembryos.Controlembryoscontainingahaploidchromosomalcomplement,derivedfromthesamespeciesasthatfromwhichthematernallyinheritedmitochondriaisderivedandhybridcrossesbetweenR.palustrisandR.pipiens,showedasignificantincreaseincytochromeoxidaseactivityduringdevelopment.OxygenuptakedatafromdiploidandhaploidR.pipiensembryoswereinagreementwiththedataobtainedbythecytochemicalmethod.Theseresultsindicatethatanormalpatternofcytochromeoxidaseactivityduringembryonicdevelopmentrequiresanucleargenomewhichcontainsahaploidchromosomalcomplementderivedfromthesamespeciesasthatfromwhichthemitochondrialgenomeisderived.
