Dosage effects of the white (d) and melanoid (m) genes on pigment pattern in the Mexican axolotl, Ambystoma mexicanum, Shaw☆
[摘要] Twounlinkedautosomalrecessivegenes,white(d)andmelanoid(m),areknowntoaffectwild-typecolorationintheaxolotl.Thedalleleinthehomozygousrecessiveconditionreducesthetotalnumberofmelanophoresandrestrictstheirmigrationtothetopoftheheadandalongthespinalcolumn.Themalleleinthehomozygousrecessiveconditionincreasesthenumberofmelanophoresandeffectsamoreuniformdistribution.Theactionofthesegeneswasfurtherinvestigatedbystudyingthephenotypesoftriploidlarvaeofknowngenotypeatthedandmloci.Triploidywasinducedbyheattreatingtheeggsimmediatelyafterovipositiontoinhibitthesecondmaturationdivision.Triploidywasverifiedbychromosomalcountsinepidermalcellsoftail-tippreparations.Melanophoredistributionandnumberwererecordedat16and30daysafteroviposition.TwodallelesinDddtriploidseffectareductioninmelanophorenumberandtheirrateofproliferation,buthavenoeffectonmelanophoredistribution.TwomallelesinMmmtriploidseffectanincreaseinthenumberofmelanophoresandtheirrateofproliferation,buthavenoeffectontheirdistribution.Therefore,itappearsthatthereareatleasttwoseparatephysiologicalactionsofgeneDandM,onethatdeterminesmelanophoredistributionandanotherthatdeterminestheirnumberandrateofproliferation.
