Influence of extracellular Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions on the second meiotic division of mouse oocytes: Relevance to obtaining haploid and diploid parthenogenetic embryos☆

[摘要] ThetypesofmouseparthenogenonesobtainedinamediummodifiedwithrespecttoCa2+and/orMg2+ionswereinvestigatedin“spontaneously”activatingeggsafterculturingcumulusmassesinvitrofor5hr.ThesecondmeioticdivisionwasaffectedineggsculturedinmediumlackingCa2+andMg2+orCa2+alone,resultinginsuppressionofsecondpolarbodyextrusioninahighproportionofcases,givingrisetotwopronucleareggsoreggsthatunderwentimmediatecleavage.Extrusionofthesecondpolarbodyoccurrednormallywhenthecumulusmasswasculturedincompletemediumand,inahighproportionofeggs,whenMg2+alonewaslackinginthemedium.Theresultsarediscussedwithreferencetothesecondmeioticdivision.Themethodprovidesanefficientwayforobtainingalargenumberofdifferenttypesofparthenogeneticembryos.
