Existence of ultraviolet-labile germ cell determinant in unfertilized eggs of Xenopus laevis and its sensitivity

[摘要] Ultravioletlight(uv)irradiationofthevegetalhemisphereofunfertilizedeggswasperformedinXenopuslaevis.Theexperimentsresultedintheeliminationofprimoridialgermcellsinthetadpoles,demonstratingtheexistenceofuv-labilegermcelldeterminantinunfertilizedeggs.Moreover,throughitssensitivityanalysis,itwasfoundthattheunfertilizedeggswereequallyassensitiveas(orslightlymoresensitivethan)thestageofeggsimmediatelyafterfertilization.Thepresentexperimentalresultssupporttheideathatthegermcelldeterminantalreadyexistsinunfertilizedeggsas“storedinformation,”whichhasbeenpostulatedbymanyauthors.
