Both the epithelial cells and the nerve cells are involved in the head inhibition properties in Hydra attenuata☆
[摘要] Theaberrant,amorphologicalmutantofHydraattenuata,hasbeenshowntohavealteredinhibitionproperties(D.I.RubinandH.R.Bode,1982,Develop.Biol.89,316–331).Basedontransplantationexperiments,theinhibitiongradientintheaberrantissteeperandhigherneartheheadthanthatinthenormal.Also,theamountofinhibitiontransmittedbytheaberrantheadishigher.Bothepithelialcellsandnervecellshavebeenimplicatedinthepatterningprocessofhydra.Thecelltypesinvolvedinthealteredinhibitionpropertiesoftheaberrantweredeterminedbymakingchimerasconsistingofepithelialcellsfromonestrainandnervecellsfromtheother.Experimentswiththesechimerasdemonstratedthattheepithelialcellswereresponsibleforthealteredinhibitiongradientoftheaberrant.Incontrast,boththeepithelialcellsandthenervecellswereinvolvedinthehigheramountofinhibitiontransmittedbytheaberranthead.Thus,bothcelltypesareinvolvedinthisaspectofpatterning.
