[摘要] Transplantationexperimentshaveledtotheideathatdevelopmentalgradientsareinvolvedinthepatterningprocessesofhydra.Headactivationandheadinhibitiongradientsappeartobeinvolvedinheadformation.Morecouldbelearnedaboutpatternformationifthesegradientscouldbealteredintheanimal.Oneapproachtothisendistostudymutantssuspectedofhavingalteredgradients.Suchmutantsmaybeidentifiedbytheiralteredmorphology.Inthisinvestigationtheaberrant,amorphologicalmutantofHydraattenuata,wasexaminedforalterationsinitsgradients.Theaberrantwasfoundtohavechangesinitsinhibitionandpolarityproperties.Theinhibitiongradientwassteeperthannormalandthelevelofinhibitionwashigherthannormalnearthehead.Inaddition,theamountofinhibitiontransmittedfromtheheadwasgreaterthannormal,whiletheamountofinhibitiontransmittedthroughthegastricregionwaslessthannormal.Thepolarityoftheaberrantgastricregionwasmoredifficultthannormaltoreverse,andtheaberrantextremitiescausedfasterpolarityreversalthannormalextremities.Thesignificanceofthesechangesisdiscussedinrelationtopatternformation.
