Axon growth from limb motoneurons in the locust embryo: The effect of target limb removal on the path taken out of the central nervous system
[摘要] Removalofthemetathoraciclimbbudfromlocustembryosat25to30%ofembryogenesishasaspecificeffectontheoutgrowthofaxonsfromaparticulargroupofmotoneurons:nerveroot5ismissingintheseanimalsandtheneuronswhichnormallysendaxonsoutthisnerveleavetheganglionbynerveroots3and/or4.Thechoiceofexitpathwaymadebyindividualidentifiedaxonsisvariable.Whenremnantsofthemetathoraciclegwhichincludetracesofthefemurarepresentaftertheoperation,nerve5ispresentandcontainsanormalcomplementofmotoraxons.Thissuggeststhatinnormaldevelopmentsomefactorneartheanlageofthecoxal-femoraljointspecifiesthepathwaytakenbytheaxonsofnerve5motoneuronsoutofthemetathoracicganglion.Twoperipheralneuronsseeninthisregionofthelimbbudinprekatatrepsisembryosarelikelycandidatesforthisrole.
