Prevalent RNA sequences of mitochondrial origin in sea urchin embryos☆

[摘要] AsetofcDNAcloneswasisolatedwhichhybridizewithRNAsveryprevalentineggsandembryosoftheseaurchin,Strongylocentrotuspurpuratus.Theclonesfallintotwoclasses.TheA-classsequenceshybridizetoaseriesoffourtoseventranscriptswhichremainconstantinprevalenceineggsandembryos.TheB-classsequenceshybridizealmostexclusivelytoasingle1.5-kbtranscriptwhichincreasesinprevalenceduringembryonicdevelopment.Clonesofbothclasseshybridizetodifferentregionsofthemitochondrialgenome.TheA-classsequencesareveryconservedinevolution,andtheirpatternofhybridizationwithrestrictionfragmentsofXenopusmitochondrialDNAindicatesthattheyrepresentmitochondrialribosomalRNAsequences.TheB-classsequencesrepresentanunconservedmitochondrialRNAofunknownfunction.TheseRNAsequencesarefoundin“postmitochondrial”supernatantspreparedfromeggsandsedimentlikemRNPsinsucrosegradients.
