The epithelial-mesenchymal interface of the male rat Mullerian duct: Loss of basement membrane integrity and ductal regression☆
[摘要] RegressionoftheMullerianductinthemaleratembryoisaccompaniedbydegenerationandphagocytosisofepithelialandmesenchymalcells,removaloftheductalbasementmembrane,andlossofdistinctionbetweentheepitheliumandmesenchyme.Thechangesinbasementmembraneintegrityoccurtemporallypriortoandduringductregressionandspatiallyinproximitytomesenchymalcellprocesses.Epithelialcellprocessesalsoextendintoandthroughthebasementmembranetocontactmesenchymalcellsandtheircytoplasmicextensions.Thedissolutionofthebasementmembraneonlyoccursiftheductisfatedtoregress.Otheralterationsintheorganizationoftheepithelialcellsoccurduringregressionandinvolvecellularreorientationandapparentintermixingwiththemesenchymecells.AlthoughcelldeathapparentlyplaysaroleintheregressionofthemaleMullerianductintherat,ourobservationssuggestthatsomecellsofductaloriginmayreenterthemesenchymalcellpopulation.
