The effects of anti-embryo sera and their localization on the cell surface during mouse preimplantation development☆

[摘要] Wehavedevelopedtworabbitantisera,oneagainstmouseblastocystsandasecondagainstmouseplacentae.Afterabsorptionoftheseantiserawithadultmousetissuesandextensivedialysis,resultsfromindirectimmunofluorescence,cytotoxicity,andculturingexperimentsleadustotwomajorconclusions.First,anti-blastocystserumdetectsagroupofcellsurfacemoleculeswhoseexpressionisembryo-specific,stage-specific,andwhoseunalteredpresenceisrequiredforpreimplantationdevelopmentinvitro.Second,anti-placentaserumdetectsadifferentgroupofcellsurfacemoleculesthatarepresentbeforefertilizationandbecomesegregatedtothesyncytiotrophoblast,appearunessentialforpreimplantationdevelopmentinvitro,andmayfunctionintrophoblastdifferentiation,and/orinprotectionofthefetusfrommaternalimmunologicattack.
